It’s still hot and getting hotter. We’re all feeling it. Food may be the last thing on our minds when we swim in a sea of emotions, but we have to eat. The weather outside and inside is stormy. So much of what is happening is beyond our control, but we can sit down and take a breath. Gather our friends around the table. Ground ourselves in what we can control, i.e., supper.

May I suggest that when the temperature rises, let’s not cook? Let’s stay cool and go easy on ourselves.

In a word, sandwiches.

Last night I had a tomato sandwich. Again. Being extremely clever (I thought), I bought potato salad from my local farm market, but it was inedible. Luckily, I managed to find some shredded cabbage. I re-purposed some leftover spicy green crema that I made from the Sobremesa Cookbook to put together a whole new kind of coleslaw. I’ll have more to share soon …
